Bayaning 3rd World @ IndieSine

Bayaning 3rd World @ IndieSine
Special One-Day screening of Mike de Leon's Bayaning 3rd World at IndieSine

Daluyan Awardee Mike de Leon created a masterpiece six long years ago. The few people who have seen it still remember de Leon's post-modern take on a bygone obsession of the centennial fever: the great Filipino hero, Jose Rizal.

Mike de Leon puts his characters, a director (Ricky Davao) and a writer (Cris Villanueva) on the verge of a creating a great Rizal film, on a historical adventure that unravels the various stories, true and false, about the controversial national hero. How you may ask, is it possible to make a compelling film within a film about a textbook case like Jose Rizal? "Bayaning 3rd World" both educates and dazzles under one of the greatest Filipino filmmakers of all time.

The Independent Filmmakers Cooperative (IFC) is proud to present a special ONE-DAY SCREENING of Bayaning 3rd World at IndieSine, Robinsons Galleria on January 25. Bayaning 3rd World wi...

The Beat Page

The history of literature has been "landmarked" by countless movements of varying styles and direction. The Beat Page is dedicated to the movement that began in the early 1950's with a small and tightly connected group of young writers who demonstrated a care-free, often reckless and unquestionably fresh approach to literature as well as a demonstrative social stance toward what was sometimes referred to as "The Establishment". The term "Beat" was reportedly coined by Jack Kerouac in the late 1940's, but became more common at about the time that writers like himself, Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti were beginning to get noticed. It was quickly becoming a slang term in America after World War II, meaning "exhausted" or "beat down" and provided this generation with a definitive label for their personal and social positions and perspectives.

one last shout before i die (of midterms cramming)

1. thanks to all of my dear readers, lurking or otherwise. yes, I am referring to you, that lonely soul who's poring over this entry right now (for lack of something better to do). am thinking if I should really transport my computer to the Makati unit instead of enduring long hours in the Ateneo Library's superslow machines. am thinking of how distracted I'll be if I do have it here. at least, I can post more frequently when that happens. 2. LEGAL WRITING IS A SUBJECT THAT CAN NEVER BE OBJECTIVELY TAUGHT. in other words, no matter what some say about non-imposition of style, I think there's always an element of having to write like a lemming, er, lawyer, instead of, say, a journalist.3. Some obligations are presumed to be indivisible. But why does an OPM song say, "sana, dalawa ang puso ko?!" Niyek. Corny.4. UCC's Sumiyaki coffee is good. no bitter aftertaste, entirely effective caffeine content.5. good luck to everyone and God bless.
